Jané Mateu Foundation celebrated its 4th Scholarship and Award Ceremony on June 17th at the Sant Pau Modernist Complex. This event, held annually, reinforces the Foundation’s commitment to promoting biomedical research and supporting scientific talent.

Beyond the awarding of scholarships and recognizing this year’s recipient, the event also aimed to provide a forum for reflection on the role of foundations and third-sector organizations in building a society more committed to health, research, and people.

In this context, the event featured a presentation by Ms. Maria Assumpció Vilà, who offered a clear and insightful perspective on the workings of the third sector, its current challenges, and the contributions made by thousands of organizations to address social needs that require collective commitment. Her presentation led to a conversation with the Foundation’s president, Juan Jané Mateu, in which they exchanged thoughts on the importance of collaboration between foundations, businesses, and civil society to promote projects with a real and sustainable impact.

The evening continued with the presentation of the research projects selected in this fourth call for proposals, whose researchers had the opportunity to share the objectives and potential of their work. This showcased the talent, dedication, and innovative capacity that the Foundation wishes to continue promoting through its scholarship program.

As a final touch, the Jané Mateu Foundation Award was presented. This award recognizes professionals whose careers embody scientific excellence, commitment to patients, and a desire to transform society through knowledge. This year, it was awarded to Dr. Susana Puig (Director of IDIBAPS), a world-renowned expert in the diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and skin cancer, and a recognized expert in genetics and immunology applied to dermatology. She is the dermatologist with the highest annual scientific output in Spain, with over 300 international publications, an impact factor of over 100, and more than 8,000 citations.

With this fourth call for proposals, the Foundation continues to strengthen an initiative that began with the aim of supporting research and which today also serves as a meeting point for sharing knowledge, fostering partnerships, and continuing to generate a positive impact on society.
